The Competition

For the third time Generation-D – an interdisciplinary idea competition for students – took place with the cooperation of the Market Economy Foundation and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The competition was intially begun by the Bavarian Elite Academy (Bayerische EliteAkademie) in cooperation with Allianz SE.

This year too, we searched for teams comprising at least two students who developed ideas for innovative and sustainable projects and businesses in our three competition categories:

Labor, Economy, and Environment

  • Who is going to get the job done and produce wealth if we’re always getting older?

  • How can we operate without needing to use resources in short-supply?

Education and Culture

  • How can the injustices of the education system be creatively and innovatively solved?

  • How can culture overcome borders?

Social Society

  • How can we be socially oriented without just giving hand outs?

  • How can we help everyone in society to participate?

The Idea

With this competition, we search and support ideas and projects that will solve a concrete problem from one of the categories. We have therefore left the competition open to a variety of submissions, whether it be a volunteer initiative, a suggestion for improvement, or a new, interesting business model. Every submitted proposal must be implementable. The ideas of participants are unlimited.

The finalists will be judged by a high ranking jury, after which the proposals will be made public. A €15,000 prize awaits this year’s winners. The distinguished projects should not, however, disappear into the cupboard. The Market Economy Foundation strives to help the project partners to implement the winning projects, as well as with the search for suitable sponsors and mentors from the economic field. The Süddeutsche Zeitung reports regularly on the competition and introduces the winning ideas.
